Greetings. I've been reading all the MC threads in this forum and can't seem to find what a priest's hit cap is now at level 80. I've gathered a lot of +hit gear and had no problems on Faerlina heroic last night, but I worry about the duration for Razuvious' adds. I am currently raiding disc and therefore do not have any talents devoted to increasing my +hit of my spells. So what would be the magical number I'm aiming for? I found on the WoW Wiki page for Spell Hit that I need 446 for a level 83 target, but doesn't specify which class. For example, I know warlocks, untalented, have a 500+ hit cap rating.

Currently I have 259 (9.87%) hit rating, which seemed to do well for Faerlina, as I only had to have the adds MC'd for a few seconds. It still feels incredibly low (which is odd, since last time I did this business I had 8 hit rating which was OVER the cap lol).

I understand a shadow priest would be better for the job, but I am the only active level 80 priest in the guild and one of the main healers for our tanks. Switching specs for one fight is a tad unnecessary.

Thanks in advance.

The 'hit cap' for everyone is the same, untalented. The chance to hit conferred by hit is the same for all spellcasters: 26.2 points of hit rating = 1% chance to hit. To overcome a 17% chance to miss against level 83 mobs (including bosses), you need 446 hit rating. This is the max any class will need at level 80.

However! :) The Death Knight Understudies are only level 82. So you only need to overcome a 6% chance to miss. That translates to a hit rating of 158.

As for Razuvious mind controls, make sure you don't move them too far away from you. :)

Yesterday me and another priest did the MC boss and the adds where fine we one shotted him. you actually dont need hit rating here, just concentrate on when to release MC for excample when you bone shield is off and the other priest takes it over, then release and re-MC if you do that like 4 or 5 times the boss will prob. be down.

Hit rating does affect both the resist chance of MC as well as the chance for an early break. It's certainly doable without any +hit gear, but when all you're doing is MCing anyways, your other stats are less than important, and a lot of people want to minimize the chance of an early break or untimely resist that wipes the raid.

Like Riprap said, distance is important. In fact, it's probably more important than +hit gear. Make sure you're relatively close to your MC target at all times. That means that your tanks and off tanks all need to be in the same vicinity, with you in the middle, but spread out enough that it's not too hard to target a student for an MC.

There are plenty of good places to get easy +hit items. The [Dark Soldier Cape] is available at honored with the Ebon Blade. The [Robes of Lightning] are from a quest in HoL. The [Sash of the Wizened Wyrm] is available from the Wyrmrest at honored. And the [Emeline's Locket] comes from an Icecrown quest (and is great because of the socket and socket bonus - 45 hit rating when socketed with the best gem!). And the [Flameheart Spell Scalpel] comes from the Kirin Tor at revered. Plus there are food buffs with 40 hit rating. And there's always the [Scryer's Bloodgem] if you have access to that. It shouldn't be too hard to scrounge up the 158 +hit required to cap out against the students.

So 158 is what I should be aiming for and encouraging my partner priest (if I ever find one) to go for as well. Thanks!

Glad to see the issue of distance is still around as well. Do they randomly break still if you keyboard turn them as well? That use to be the most frustrating issue of that fight pre-BC and one I was hoping they fixed.

We had 1 priest who accidentally initiated the fight and he went down like a cheap prostitute. I managed to MC his mark and I have 0 (zero) +hit. Luckily, we downed him after that. I'm sure +hit would have helped to make sure he was MC. But, in the heat of the fight and the yelling from the raid leader, you can do it without +hit, guarantee...not always. {knock on wood}
