Okay so I'm sure a lot of you are so familiar with this fight that you'll probably find me a little odd for saying this. But....

OMG! Last night was the first night I experienced the Gorefiend fight. And I got made a ghost.

I had soooooo much fun zooming around the room pewpew'n the ghosts! LOL! Laughing so hard all by myself in my computer room. I was really sad when my time ran off and I couldn't shoot things anymore. :(

Now I just keep hoping that next week I get to go back!

Oh good! You must be one of the rare individuals that's able to pick up what to do right away! Isn't it great not to be "that guy"? ^^

Heh, it is a fun fight once people know what to do.

Interestingly enough, our Mages had the most trouble dealing with the ghosts >.>

I hate that fight >.>
I have recently been able to kill all my constructs, with a little help from another ghostie, 2 weeks ago which was lucky I guess as I got my cowl of benevolence. I go to that fight every week saying "please not me, please not me" lol

We had a couple of "those" guys but no it wasn't me. Then again I practiced on some simulator thing on the web that a raid lead linked to me. I played it until I never lost.

Looks like we're going back tonight. :)

Please be me! I want to do it again!

On another note - we cleared MC last night in 2 hours 20 min. Had a rogue tank Rag. Had him dead in just over a minute. So nice going back for revenge on a place that used to be hard.

"That guys" make me cry in this fight. It's such an vital task, and oh so simple, yet we can't assign it to people, we have to be prepared for it going to 'anyone' in the raid.

First attempt, first person was the biggest 'that guy' you can imagine. I groaned, and sure enough, 50 seconds later, 3 constructs were pounding on the raid. Wipe.

I admit, being the ghost is fun, but the sheer quantity of /sighing I have to do when other people mess up this easy task, sadly outweighs much of the fun I could have from this fight.

Don't be 'that guy' - find the online simulator (sorry don't have link at work) and practice, practice, practice.

I have to disagree with pushing that simulator so much. The perspective and control set is SO different from in-game that, in my opinion, after a point of semi-familiarity with the pacing of the task, it does not further help you understand the in-game task. It's helpful up to a point, but after that, it just diverges too far from reality. If it helps YOU, that's great. But realize that there are lots of people who just cannot translate it to the in-game task.

What I've also found to be VERY destructive during the fight is repeated 'this is easy, you should be able to do it'. It's most definitely not easy, it's a difficult task, and one that is unique in the game. Another destructive 'suggestion' is that 'you just have to do *some key combination*'. Again, not true, and just adding pressure that people don't need. Some people do well, some people don't do so well at it. But adding pressure on top of them will certainly not make anyone perform better.

Yes, it's frustrating when that fight doesn't go well. I've been through a lot on that fight, it was the straw that broke the back of my guild (even after we beat him). There are people who need time to get familiar with it, and to adjust their control set to deal with it. There's no magic bullet, no 'Easy Button'. What I really think is the most important is that you support your guild mates, even in your frustration of wiping, and help them find a way that will work for them. And foster a guild culture of helping out on that fight. Make it so the first person is the ONLY person who has to kill 4 constructs on their own. Then everyone chains after that: Person 1 helps person 2, person 2 helps person 3, 3 helps 4, etc. The smoothest kills we've had were when this happens.

But please give people time to figure out how to do it, and realize that the 'simulator' is, at some point about as helpful as the old Atari 2600 'Indy 500' game in learning to race the real Indy 500.

I think the online simulator's usefullness is well...I don't know.

I played it until I could beat it simply because that's my nature. I see a game and have to win. The online version sucked compared to the actual event in WoW. The cooldowns were faster, the movement was faster and the targetting was a lot easier. The simulator is just a nice way to get familiar and get the general idea of what's going to happen.

Nope I can't agree. It is easy. Very, very easy. We're supposed to be talking about people who have played their characters to 70, been through all the heroics, karazhan atleast a few times, if not 20 times, then through whatever Tier 5 route worked for them.

I completely do not understand people that can not do this. Sure - 1, even 2 attempts for practice. Absolutely fine. But 3-4 times down the road and you're still failing. No, that I can't understand.

I do support my guild mates. On Monday I was first to die, I cleared my four and the second person only had 2 of their own to kill by the time I ran out of time, and a healer had a shield on too. But I can't be first every time, and I can't be second, third, fourth as well.

Despite the second person having an easy time because I had time to help, that didn't domino, and the third person's constructs still made it into the raid. How - I can't even imagine. Thankfully the boss was low and we killed him before the constructs wiped us.

You can be as supportive as you like, but 'those people' need to find a way to practice that doesn't waste the time of 24 other people. If the simulator does that - all well and good. If not, then they need to find another way. Perhaps round up 4 low level mobs and practice wanding/hitting them once each in rotation. I don't know. But I know if I was having problems with this, I'd be finding a way to solve it on my own time, not everyone elses.

Again I disagree. At the very beginning you only have 2 decent 'combinations' unless you want to fail. Hammer that 4 key to shackle immediately, or if your connection doesn't suffer from lag too badly, then hammer the aoe damage, followed by the shackle, 5, 4.

The only other option (aside from standing there doing nothing) is to just start lancing straight away. A very bad idea in my opinion and one that is liable to cause one construct escaping at the very beginning and getting in the raid.

Smeester, fine, you think it's easy. The bare fact that there are MANY people who have trouble with it would seem to indicate that it's not easy for them. It can be a completely different experience from what people have done before in game. And then add on the pressure of people shouting at you, blaming you for a wipe, and saying you suck, and you have a recipe for making people who already realize they are not good at something absolutely frozen with terror. You can keep saying 'it's easy, it's easy', and they keep hearing 'I'm better than you, you suck'. That doesn't help the raid progress at all.

I've helped many people with the fight. I've dragged lower level mobs along so that other people on mages can practice Ice Lancing them. I've worked on drills for quick target changing. And it's helped. But there's still pressure in game, and the design of the encounter doesn't help, especially when you tell people 'wedge yourself in the corner, and then pick out individually four mobs that are darker than a dark room, and hit them in turn.'

And the 'just hit a key combination' advice doesn't work for the simple fact that not everyone has a stock setup, nor does everyone have the same bar swapping. If it comes up on the pet bar, then it's not '4', it's 'CTRL-4'. If they haven't changed it.

The larger point I'm trying to make to you is that your experience is not universal. And treating it like it is puts unnecessary pressure on other members of your raid, and creates tensions that don't need to be added to an already stressful situation.

Lol - I don't shout at anyone, or moan at them. Or blame them for wipe. I'm not out to make it harder for people, it's obviously unproductive, that goes without saying.

This is simply my own opinion, outside of a raid, of this task.

I'm happy to agree to disagree on how difficult it is. Good point about the petbars though. :)
