I spent the last few hours writing a massive blog post outlining all of the preliminary changes to Paladin abilities in Mists of Pandaria based on the Official Talent Calculator that Blizzard recently put up.

You can find the post here on my blog. (I will edit this forum post to transpose everything some time tomorrow—right now my brain is too tired to change the HTML to BBCode.)

Feel free to comment in this thread or on that post, whichever you prefer.

Awesome, thanks for the summary! Not sure if you intended this thread to be a place for discussion, if not feel free to remove my post. But let me see if I can summarize the main changes on Holy from that list:

1. WoG usable by all specs, doesn't really seem to be extra buffed for Holy, or did I miss it? But still, the Prot pally in me welcomes the change, though I can't imagine the headaches I will get now trying to see how to use my HP, since they gave the other finishers bonuses.
2. Oh god no auras, my crusader aura's gone, /cry. Then again I always forgot to use it. Oh wait we get that passively, incredibly yey! But our other auras! At least Aura Mastery still acts as a 2min CD reducing magic damage by 20%.
3. Holy Wrath targeted, and now only for Holy Pallies, yey aren't we special? Wait, what? They are giving Holy Pallies an AoE ability with no other effect than DPS? Are Shockadins coming back?
4. Exorcism now Retribution only and 20 sec CD. No, Shockadins are probably not coming back. But the change to Holy Wrath really doesn't make much sense to me, why give only a healing spec a pure dps ability?

Edit: I so welcome the "up to 5 HP" buffer zone. I hate wasting HP cause Eternal Glory procced but I have already queued a HS, or Blessed Resilience procced but I am already landing a HR etc etc. the 3HP hard cap was really making most random HP generating abilities lose a small part of their value, and it also wasn't allowing Prot Pallies to amass the HP and only use the finishers when they really need them. This buffer will be a welcome change.

Edit 2: Looking at the precise description of HW in the talent calc, it seems that it is in effect replacing exorcism. It is now a castable ability with no cd, and a fairly short cast time, relatively small cost, and its damage spreads evenly on targets within 10 yards from a target, meaning it is perfectly viable on single target. It is also placing the Exorcism's Denounce effect on its targets, which is pretty darn sweet.

This thread is as good a place as any for discussion. ;-) Also, keep in mind that the linked changes only include changes to class and spec abilities, and does not include the new talents which can definitely have an impact on how the abilities may be viewed.

1. WoG actually seems to be nerfed quite a bit for Holy since Walk in the Light's +10% all healing and +30% WoG healing has gone poof. Plus, it now seems to invoke a 1.5 second non-global cooldown, which is at best equal to and at worse half a second longer than Holy's current global cooldown (which is dependent on haste). I'm sure, though, the latter is mostly to prevent shenanigans with Holy Avenger or Divine Purpose. However, when you consider the changes in conjunction with Protection and Retribution changes that allow each point of Strength to also grant 1 spell power (I haven't seen anything that indicates that Intellect will grant more than 1 point of spell power in MoP), it's possible that all of the shared heals will heal for roughly the same amount regardless of spec.

2. Yeah, the aura changes make me really sad. Auras are such an iconic part of WarCraft's Paladin class, and I'll be sad to see them go. Personally, I wish they'd at least bring back as activated, non-passive buffs (similar to weakened versions of pre-4.3 Holy Radiance or the current Divine Guardian).

3. & 4. Even healers need some way to deal some damage for things like dailies and PvP. Currently we have a spammable offensive nuke in the form of Exorcism, but that's becoming Retribution-only in MoP, so Holy Wrath is essentially just filling in as a replacement with the added bonus of building the current Denounce talent into the base spell. Plus, it seems like it could have a small "oh crap!" usage by taking critical hits off the table if a non-tank has to pick up a mob for a short time (such as if the tank dies and is being battle rezzed).

But really, though, I remember being jealous of Lightning Bolt, Wrath, and Smite back before Exorcism was turned into a spammable nuke. It really is something that seems unnecessary only until you have to play without it for a substantial amount of time.

E1. Plus, it means that if there's a substantial lull in incoming damage for a while, you can keep using Holy Shock for longer before you reach the point where you just waste the charges on a mastery bubble.

E2. Yep yep yep!

PS: Bonus points if you read that last line in Ducky's voice from Land Before Time. :thumb:
